Pridgen who have been in charge of the Hookworm Dispensaries in this county, left Sunday afternoon for Raleigh where they took charge of the health exhibit at the State Fair Monday. About 70 School Teachers of the county were here last Tlmrs *Uy and Friday taking examina tion, preparatory to teaching in the Public Schools this winter. A teachers association was formed with Prof. W. R, Hill of Poouville as Chairman and Miss Connie Reynolds Secretary. THEO ROOSEVELT SHOT IN BREAST Supposed Insane Man Shoots Colonel as he Enters Automobile—John Schrank Arrested Admits he Fired the Shot Theodore Roosevelt, seven years President of the United States, and now the nominee of the Progressive party for that office, was shot in Mil waukee. Wis. Monday night, as he was entering an automo bile to go to an audiioriam to make an address. It was at first thought he was not shot, but a bullet hole in his overcoat and blood on his gaiments showed that a ball of large calibre had enter ed the breast, however Col. Roosevelt went on and finish ed his address, only growing weak toward the last, The man who fired the shot was John Sehrank of New York City. Papers in the Colonel’s pocket saved his life. After being arrested Schank said, “any man looking for a third term ought to be shot/’ Pie also said that in a dream Roosevelt was presented as the murderer of McKinley and lie was asked to avenge McKinley’s death. Pridgen • for the past six weeks in this county closed last Saturday. The extra weeks that were to be given, will not be given as stated in last week’s Ripple. Dr. Pridgen having to go to Raleigh on unexpected bus iness. Below is given the astonish ing results of six weeks work at different places: Hast Bend, 7?4 examined 7 per cent infected; Boonville, 1009 examined, 457 infected, 46 per cent; Hamptonville, 1577 examined, 910 infected, 58 per cent; Courtney, 566 ex amined, 366 infected, 65 per cent; Yadkiuville, 1421 exam ined, 823 infected, 58 per cent. M. Cooke presiding and Solicitor Ham mer representing the State. The criminal docket was fin ished Wednesday morning and the civil docket taken up Wednesday afternoon.
